I am listening to this while reading Kerouac’s “On the Road”. Such an
interesting peak into the beat generation. Makes for a cool evening anyhow.?

(from Wiki) Bassist Al McKibbon, who had known Monk for over twenty years
and played on his final tour in 1971, later said: “On that tour Monk said
about two words. I mean literally maybe two words. He didn’t say ‘Good
morning’, ‘Goodnight’, ‘What time?’ Nothing. Why, I don’t know. He sent
word back after the tour was over that the reason he couldn’t communicate
or play was that Art Blakey and I were so ugly.”?

Great music with a slight hum. They didn’t have cellphones in 1971. Check
out the cheeks on “Dizz” at 26:30?

I don’t know why, but *all* my YouTube “What to watch” recommendations are
hour long videos. I’m not really complaining, because they are all great
performances, but where am I going to find the time to watch them? I guess
listening is what is all about anyway. :-)

How melodic and Monkish is Sonny Stitt’s solo on Tour de Force! They
really were trying to cheer up their buddy. ?
