What is the best pickup to use in the bridge position of a fretless jazz bass?

I’m a huge Jaco and Marcus Miller fan, and I’m in the process of building my own jazz bass. I want to spend some time only using the bridge pickup. I heard some people say that Jaco used Bartolini pickups in his J bass, but I don’t know which one. I know Jason Lollar makes awesome pickups, but they’re $90 each. I’ve also considered Seymour Duncan’s vintage style jazz pups. Thanks everyone.

  1. Left-T ...

Wow. Two awesome bassman. Consider using Seymour Duncan at the bridge IF YOU want good attack, quick response and a SUPER clean punchy sound.

Bartolini were good pick-ups back then but Seymour has come a long way and it a more reponsive pickup especially on the Jazz Bass. I installed many of them and everyone were happy with the setup.

I recommend the SJB-2 or the quarter-pounder if you want high output.
