This is a nice reed case. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s a little larger than I need it to be, since I only play Bb soprano clarinet…. but it’s not a big deal. For the humidity packs, do yourself a favor and do not buy the $6 Rico packs. For merely $9-$10, you can get 10 packs:

10 Pack of Boveda Humidipak 72% 8 Gram Humidity Packet

These packs are identical to the one I received with the two Rico cases I bought (one for me, one for my daughter)… literally identical (when you tear open the Rico package, inside is a Boveda pack).

As a working pro saxophonist, I’ve tried all the reed cases. This one is the best. It keeps the reeds flat, playable and mildew-free. I’m getting some more with the 84% humidity pack for on-stage use so I can have immediately playable backup reeds. The included 73% is just right for everyday use.

I find my reeds both last longer and are more quickly ready for use when stored in this case. A very nice combination! Also holding 10 reeds is great for doublers. I frequently play tenor, alto saxes and clarinet so this is a great advantage.

One warning: It’s easy to think you’ve closed the unit when you haven’t. The reeds have to be inserted fully for the case to close properly. If the lid isn’t fully closed then air gets in and you defeat the purpose of this case. The other caveat is that you can buy the humidifier packs for quite a bit less from suppliers other than Rico (now D’Addario).
