Fender CD-60 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar with Hard Case – All Mahogany Reviews

Fender Beginner Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar CD-60 All Mahogany - With Case

  • Laminated Mahogany Top with Scalloped X-Bracing, Laminated Mahogany Back and Sides
  • Mahogany Neck with 20-Fret Rosewood Fingerboard
  • Rosewood Bridge with Compensated Saddle
The CD-60 is one of Fender’s most popular guitars for novice players who still want a high-quality dreadnought with great tone and playability for any kind of acoustic music. Now, with the CD-60 All Mahogany, they can also get the beautiful look and distinctively mellow sound of a mahogany top. Its dreadnought body style and scalloped “X”-bracing provide plenty of sonic projection, making it a great guitar for lessons, practice and performance, and it includes a hard-shell case for safe and convenient transport.

When I was shopping for an acoustic, this was not my first choice, however, I couldn’t forget about it. I finally bought it and I’m glad I did.
It has a beautiful natural mahogany wood finish from the headstock to the body with a subtle mother of pearl inlay around the sound hole. Solid and sturdy construction, it came set up to factory specs upon arrival.
Like all good Fender guitars, the action is a bit unforgiving requiring the player to be more precise, thus improving the player’s technique. The tone is warm and resonant and sounds phenomenal in open tunings.
Bonus! The CD-60 fits snugly in the hardshell case, and though it’s not a road case, will stand up to a beating and provide more than adequate protection.
Extras include a reserve bridge saddle, string peg and truss wrench plus two keys for the case.
A great package at a bargain price.

I have been playing the guitar for 50 years. I currently own several, including two Taylor guitars, 300 series. I bought this guitar as a travel guitar on a recent trip to Alaska. (promusicalaska.com) The trip was a disaster but the outcome was that I brought the guitar home with me instead of leaving it with my daughter in San Fransisco. Turns out it was my luck. I love this little dreadnaught. I play it often while leaving my Taylor(s) at home. It has a rich low end tone and is easy to play. I have gotten numerous compliments on it’s look and sound from total strangers. For this price range, I would recommend it to anyone to buy. Not surprisingly, it does require some attention to tuning. Using an electronic tuner is a must with ANY guitar. Especially when using a capo. The guitar fits snugly into it’s case which is fine. Exterior skin is a bit whimpy but no big deal for the price. That’s what a hard shell case is for after all. I did have the guitar shop replace the strings prior to delivery. Probably a good idea. ( I believe they put on Martin coated stings but not sure which ones. 80/20 bronze?) Setting up the action of the guitar should be included with the purchase price of ANY guitar by a reputable dealer. Just ask that it be done by a guitar technician. Good luck, have fun..buy a tuner! (I like the SNARK brand. I have 2 of them)

This is a truly amazing guitar. I bought mine at an independent music store in Albuquerque and tried two of them and they both sounded great. Initially I was going to get one just for the way it looked so I couldn’t believe how much I liked the sound. This guitar has a bright tone but still well defined bass, and sounds good both with picking and strumming. I especially like it for hard, choppy strumming.

The CD-60 I got has a similar grain pattern to the one in the Amazon photo but in the store I saw patterns at angles and other variations. I liked the way all the guitars looked so it was hard to pick out just one. In the month I’ve had it I’ve done nothing to it except tune it and it plays very well. It’s now one of my favorite acoustics guitars (I own several including a Martin and a Taylor) and I’m playing it more than the others. The guitar has pretty good tuners and there’s inlay around the sound hole. All rather surprising given the price.

The case was also surprising – it’s included! It’s not the same quality as my expensive cases and I can’t judge how long it will last but so far I’ve had no problems with it or the latches. It’s a nice hard case with a padded interior and four latches.

Note that the description on this page is currently wrong – there are no electronics in the CD-60.
