Well, when comparing this to other bongo cajons -all three of ’em in production that I know of anyways- I thought, bang for buck, this may be the one to get. Everyone’s whose got one has the Meinl, and the videos look like it sounds neat, plus it’s got great reviews, but the LP one has nice tones too and at least as high of an approval rating out of those who’ve tried it. What’s more, it’s the same price, it’s got seemingly comparable craftsmanship and certainly has more thought put into it’s construction than any other and a frickin’ carry bag too. Just received it and so far it’s a very nice looking/sounding nstrument. I dig it. Maybe if I get really into it I’ll splurge on the Gon Bops one -not looking for an artisan piece of furniture to bang on at the moment- so again, this definitely works.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this cajon when it arrived. Shipping was ahead of time, it was snugly double boxed with air cushioned packing on either end and somewhat larger than I’d imagined when ordered.

The cajon itself is solid wood gradually tapering down to the sound hole, the top a natural wood veneer, and triple enameled on the sides in flat black, giving it a sleek look while just enough satin clear coat finish to grip it firmly between the knees (bongo style) and provide a comfortable slap. While it is not wire tunable, still it has a variety of tones around the top which are warmer and lower in tone (more bongo like) than wired cajon you sit on. The pictured top veneer implies an equally divided sound box, but in fact is divided beneath into two classically different compartments typical of a cajon. The central contrasting stripe and Latin Percussion logos on top appear inlaid while the LP logo on the side is a metal medallion.

It was truly a thing of beauty to look at, touch and play, so when the nylon ‘cordura’ type carry bag with drawstring was pulled from the box, the entire purchase just seemed to get better and better. My seller: Wholesale Music

The bongo cajon arrived quickly and as advertised. The bag it comes with is nice and will make transporting it easier as well as keeping dust off of it. The drum itself is ok. I think I prefer the traditional bongo with animal skin. The sound resonates much more than this bongo cajon does. It is sturdy and can be hit properly, but it just doesn’t have has much umph. It will do as far as having a hand percussion for a small group in a smaller room. As a definite plus, it fits great inbetween the legs and is easy to hold on to. The handle on the side is nice. It is lightweight.
